Registrations are now open for the How to Tackle Unsafe Behaviours at Their Roots—Insights on the Three Inducing Factors webinar. This webinar will explore the relationship between the inducing factors and unsafe behaviours and provide strategies to tackle the inducing factors.
One common belief in safety is this: “Since most accidents are caused by unsafe behaviours, let’s fix these behaviours and we can create a safe workplace.” What follows next are initiatives relating to training, incentives and enforcement.
The line of thought above is intuitive but flawed—while unsafe behavours directly cause accident, they don’t exist in a vacuum; there are reasons for these behaviours. While there are numerous reasons (why people do what they do), they fall into three categories: System, Culture and Attitude. Unless we can uncover and tackle these inducing factors, the unsafe behaviours will return.

Boon Chew Soon, Principal Consultant, Culture Lab Boon Chew is a safety consultant with more than 15 years of experience in Asia. Before starting his own practice, he was the regional safety head for a U.S. MNC. His passion lies in the people aspects of safety such as leadership, building engagement and culture change. As information in these fields tend to be too complex or high level, his personal mission is to share insights in a simple and pragmatic way. Besides being a certified Coach, Boon Chew has a Masters in EHS and a Professional Diploma in Behaviour Psychology.
