MASTERCLASS

Building a Culture of Psychological Safety: A Behavioural Ethics Approach

Building a culture of safety requires humility, accountability, and open communication. People need to be able to speak up on behavioural and safety matters, to feel safe to identify risk, and have the confidence and capability to address interpersonal behaviour and what we call ‘everyday ethical’ issues.

In this masterclass, Dr Brock Bastian will challenge and broaden your understanding of culture; what it is, what impacts it, and what it takes to build a psychologically safe workplace. He will introduce the tools and insights derived from Behavioural Ethics, and demonstrate how these can be used to improve communication through building self-awareness. Brock will present a framework for making safety part of everyday behaviour and for empowering staff to ‘speak up’ early to address arrange of conduct, decision making and behavioural issues in their infancy, rather than managing incidents when they have reached a crisis point.

After completing this thought provoking masterclass, participants will have increased insight and understanding into their own and others behaviour, increased communication capabilities through the application of the ORATE Method TM, increased confidence and capability to adopt an early intervention approach to common workplace issues before they get to crisis stage, and an increased understanding of how to build a psychologically safe workplace.

Dr Brock Bastian is a partner at ‘Ethics Applied’, a specialist consultancy specialising in building ethical workplace cultures, is one of the leading researchers in the field of Behavioural Ethics globally and recognized as the principal expert within Australia. He is also a best-selling author and an engaging and sought after speaker, whose work has been reviewed in outlets such as the Harvard Business Review, Fast Company, The Economist and Time Magazine. Awarded for his innovative ideas, Brock’s work has revealed how underlying motivations and cognitive biases influence ethical decision-making and behaviour, and demonstrated how these subtle and often unconscious influences may shape organisations from the bottom up as well as the top down. Brock is passionate about creating an open and honest discussion around everyday ethics, and developing insight into how this contributes to a psychologically safe culture.

We encourage all breakfast event delegates to attend this critical masterclass. (Limited spaces are available.)
